The Shoemaker Series is a book series for children aged 8-12 featuring men serving God and man in their ordinary daily work. The first books will feature a barber, a heart surgeon, and a chemist. These books will focus on the kind of work men do in the faithful fulfillment of their callings as husbands, fathers, and laymen. They will be useful for schools, churches and parents to guide boys in their futures as providers, church leaders, and citizens.
These books will encourage boys (and the fathers who read to them) to consider work in the light of Luther’s famous quote (which may be an early paraphrase not an actual quote),” The Christian shoemaker does his Christian duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes….” It is more likely that he said,” If he is a Christian tailor, he will say, I make these clothes because God has bidden me do so, so that I can earn a living, so that I can help and serve my neighbor. ” This is the message of The Shoemaker Series.
